Amazing -I’m back! I know, I know. Don’t have a heart attack.

I should have been reading on my book (I have to re-read all 8 of them so I can wrap things up in number 9) but I did this instead.

Anyway, today’s dress is not a dress – it’s a swinsuit and it’s for Katelina  (You can get her here).

Here’s the pin it’s based on. (which I think is an advertisement, but such is life)

First off the floral pattern isn’t even similar but I like this better.

Second off, I managed to use the tablet 100% for this one. I think for long sweeping lines in future I will use the line tool and stick to the tablet for shorter lines. As a secret I’ll admit sometimes when had drawing them I redo the long lines with the line tool, so there you go.

Not much to report, so I leave you and go to bed now.

Happy paperdolling!

The jammie party rolls on!

Tonight it’s Katelina’s relaxin’ ’round the house pajamas! (You can get her here).

There is not a real pin for this one, I made it up based on a bunch of different pajama sets…

I thought it came out pretty cute, and the checkers are flowing in the right shape, so I was proud of that.

Not much to report. I got the dresser painted today but I may post that on my personal blog tomorrow, so in the mean time Happy Paper dolling!

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that she’d best not wear this one to the pajama party. I think Jorick plans for her to wear that behind closed doors.

I’m having problems with word press – it doesn’t seem to want to scroll so that I can see what I am typing, so I am going to keep it short. Happy paper dolling!

I spent ALLLLLL friggin’ day today working on formatting the Ink Slingers’ Halloween Anthology – well, all day that I was at the computer. There were a lot of interruptions. The basement flooded (it’s only about a quarter to a half inch and only in the first room, but it begs the question: Where did the water come from?), then I had to help hubby go to Red Oak to fetch some crates (His workplace gives them away regularly and he wanted to grab them before they got wet.) Then we stopped at Stanton’s compost yard to look for cement blocks, but when we went to go to Villisca’s it was all under water.  mean seriously flooded. After the rain today it’s no wonder.

I could go on, but you don’t care. So…

Anyway, today’s dress is not a dress – it’s a coat and it’s for Katelina  (You can get her here).

(She’s wearing outfit 75 under that)

When I was a kid, a lack of coats for dolls was always something that bugged me. And a lack of pajamas and swim suits. How could they go to the beach – an important pastime in the 80s – without a swim suit? And how could they get ready for bed without pajamas? And how in the world could they go out in the cold without a coat? Luckily my very cool mom taught me how to make coats that could go over their clothes (If you leave the coat open but stretch the collar so it goes straight behind the neck you can hang it over them). No, this is not one of those because the design didn’t lend itself to it. Maybe I’ll do one for someone later.

My mother was very cool when it came to artsy things – drawing, painting, writing. She taught me how to do a lot of things, like ruffles, for instance, or the above mentioned coats, or that if you use plastic wrap or cellophane you can actually make see-through paper doll clothes. (this would not work with a print out, needless to say).

Anyway, it’s late and I’m behind, so I am outta here.

Happy Paper dolling!

P.S. A new doll may be in the future – can you guess who it is?

Though the weather app, google weather, and every other weather source I can find says it’s sunny with no chance of rain (even the radar shows nothing) I am sitting nervously under cloud cover. Why nervously? Because I slathered a bunch of paint remover on the house (It makes it soooooo much easier to get that paint off – and this is an “all natural” stuff [sure] that doesn’t have harmful fumes or require breathing masks or any of the rest of it) and if it rains said paint remover (at 1$ a square foot) will wash away. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Why did I put it on? because it WAS sunny. And every resource said it would stay sunny. So, for the first time in my life I am hoping it does NOT rain. Feel free to hope with me.

Anyway, today’s outfit is for Katelina  (You can get her here).

Katelina is happy to have some “normal” clothes for a change. Though she looks meaty in them – to be fair she looks meaty in everything. The brother and I were discussing that. Unlike the Jo doll, Katelina is based on a real person (though I still shaved inches off all over because she looked huge on paper even though in real life the model is maybe a size 8), and I think we’re all so used to the insanely skinny “cartoon” women that to see a drawing that is even close to normal or realistic proportions just looks wrong. Add to that that her head is the normal size instead of being the too-big anime style, and she looks even chunkier.

Now here’s the really fascinating thing: if given a choice, as a chunky-in-real-like/we-should-all-be-nicer-to-people-who-aren’t-models gal, I still prefer the hyper-skinny Jo doll or even the totally out of proportion Esthme doll to make clothes for because they are “prettier”. I find Katelina sort of manly and in-elegant and know that no matter what I dress her in she will never look svelte and sexy. (Kind of like me – ha ha!)

I find this interesting because it demonstrates the societal bias I have unwittingly soaked up over the years, despite my desire to be more enlightened, and it also demonstrates the sort of bias we all have on everything, from people to coffee cups. Our definitions of pretty might be different, but everyone is first attracted to the object that is formed with their preferred aesthetic. I think the interesting question is where do e get these aesthetics from? Why do i find the hyper-thin, anime style people more attractive? Is it because I loved anime as a small child? (I always thought that the Amalthia in the Last Unicorn was beautiful) Or was I born with these preconceived ideas (perhaps from a past life?) and simply found an attraction to the cartoons that held a pre-created aesthetic?

Too deep for a paper doll post, so I end it here.

Happy paper dolling!

Hubby and I spent the day watching book 3 and half of book 4 of the Legend of Kora. Was happy to finally see Zuko and Toph. It’s a good show so far. Not sure I like it as much as Last Airbender, but then it was the first, so…

Anyway, today’s dress is for Katelina  (You can get her here).

Here’s the pin it’s based on.

This one came out pretty good. I was originally going to give this to Jo, then I realized she gets all the pretty dresses, which is a bit unfair. Katelina deserves pretty dresses too, though I have no idea who she borrowed it from or where she wore it to. Maybe it’s for the next book and the fancy week long ball going on. I need to get that written.

And with that I sign off. Happy paper dolling!

Hello! Day two of the revival. I actually have some others drawn, but no promises on how long this will last. I’ve learned not to make commitments I probably can’t keep.

Today was shopping day. We went to Council Bluffs/Omaha and spent waaaaay too much but we got the brother a new laptop and hubby got a saw he wanted and I got a scarecrow from dollar general for the porch, LOL!

Enough chatter. I now have a personal blog if I want to do that ( I owe it a post, in fact. Maybe I’ll do that. Or maybe I’ll reblog this one and go to bed. Or yesterday’s. That one was pretty.

Anyway, today’s dress is for Katelina  (You can get her here).

Here’s the pin.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this dress came from Torina, as it’s her style. I gave her some pantyhose this time just because. I don’t know if those are still in style now – most pics I see have women bare-legged. Maybe I am old skool but I think the pantyhose make it look dressier.

I printed off the Jorick doll this morning so I can (maybe) make him some clothes. I also have what could easily be a Verchiel doll, but I don’t know whether to make him into one or not. Opinions from my two subscribers?

And that’s all from me for now. Have a good night!

Jo 🙂
