Gotta have a sailor dress!

drawing time: 34 minutes
times cheated and used the mouse: all of it – running behind again
number of layers: 5

Okay, so I cheated again because I’m running late and I have at least one more vintage outfit I want to do, but I don’t want to devote too much of October to September’s theme, so….

Not much happening here. I;ve been getting gobs of piddly stuff done the last few days. Last night was email, backing up the PC (hadn’t done that since May – MAY!) and I forget what else. I have a book cover tonight and then I need to get Legacy of Ghosts formatted for Kindle and Smashwords. I have to get the Kindle version uploaded pretty quick, in fact.

Though Lowell sent me a mail today and pointed a new outlet – the Pub It through Barnes and Noble. However, S already distributes to them, so I need to go over the royalty payments and see whether it;s better to stay with Smashwords for B&N or opt out through there and go through B&N directly. My books are already in B&N through Smashwords, and I;ve even sold some there, so I dunno. More research.

I also need to edit photos tonight if I can squeeze it in. Damn.

Anyway, today;s outfit is from the 7 Dolls in 1 set that I started with.

No changes to this one, as I thought it was cute as is. Though I didn’t give her the beach ball, as I always hated it when dolls clothes were holding things. What if I didn’t want them carting around a beach ball, or an umbrella, or a kid? (Yeah, I had one Barbie PD outfit where she was holding a kid’s hand). So, I try not to do those things which irritated me.

Okay, I’m outta here – work, work, work! Thanks god I have somewhere to vent a little bit!

drawing time: 45 minutes
times cheated and used the mouse: all of it
number of layers: 9 counting the recolors

I’m cutting it close. because of that i completely cheated and used nothing bu the mouse. I’m not proud of it, but that’s the way it is.

The proof editing is finished and I’ve uploaded the files to CS, so waiting for them to approve them so I can order the proof. Then I need to format the versions for Amazon Kindle and Smashwords. Then just sit back and wait and see if my five fans hate the book, LOL!

It was cold here today, so all the lightning bugs are probably dead now.  It’s been neat the last several nights because they are hiding out in the grass, like right against the ground, so if you;re out there awhile and let your eyes get used to the dark, pretty soon it looks like this whole field of fallen stars as they blink off and on. I wish I could get a picture that would do it justice, but alas, I can’t.

So, tonight;s outfit is another one from Nurses Three – probably the last of them for this series. i am planning to start Halloween costumes soon. I am going to look at the vintage clothes I have left and see how many more I really want to do vs I just thught would be “okay”.

Anyway, there’s three color choices because I couldn’t make up my mind

Lookin' very Persephone

drawing time: 1 hour 17 minutes
times cheated and used the mouse: 2 0 shading and the hem of the dress
number of layers: 8

I almost didn’t make it today. I was going to do this last night; I even had the outfit picked out, only then my brother came over and wanted me to come watch Dr. who, Web of Fear with him. I started to say no, but then I decided that I hadn’t done anything with him for quite awhile, so what the hell. You have to spend time with people too (though god knows I have a pile of email from people that I haven’t made it to yet – ahhh!)

So, Dr. Who. It’s an old one, and I mean a William Hartnel old one, aka the first doctor way back in the 60’s. It was actually a fairly ambitious episode, considering the effects of the time, as they try to do a planet of giant bugs. however, it does come off as a bit funny because of those limitations:

Anyway, so I did that and finished editing the proof yesterday. Mom is running through the book tonight and then hopefully I will upload the files tomorrow and be done with the paper back version (yay!) Then only Kindle and Smashwords to format and I am done.

Anyway, so today’s outfit is another one from Nurses Three, because I really like the drapey look, in case you can’t tell from the last few selections.

I pretty much left this one as is, because that’s how fond I was of it. No recolors because I like it in the blue.

Okay, I have to go serve dinner now, so catch ya all another time!

The dress that took two days....

drawing time: 2 days (lol)
times cheated and used the mouse: a lot
number of layers: 6

Yeah, it took two days because I got sick in the middle, so I stopped, and then I forgot to start timing myself when I picked it back up.

This posting once a day hasn’t gone very well, has it? It’s not the posting, actually, but the dress drawing. I can come up with a few minutes to post. I jus sometimes haven’t had the hour plus to draw.

Let’s see. what to share? Still working on the proof as today was Turtle Thursday. That’s the day of the week I spend drawing the weekly page for the comic/manga The Terrible Turtle Conspiracy. It’s written by Jonathan Harvey and – *gasp* illustrated by me. We had a cool website, but it’s been down for a week or more now, so we’re moving it. I bought the domain name tonight; .  As of writing this there’s no content at that address yet, but I hope to remedy that this weekend.

Anyway, we started Chapter Five tonight

The Terrible Turtle Conspiracy

At the moment you can read them on my Myspace – where we have a cool Table of Contents.

Okay, enough of that. remind me to tell you about the lightning bugs tomorrow.

So, today’s/yesterday’s dress is from the Dorothy Provine set – and that’s all I know.  Heck, I don’t even know who she is. I could wiki her, but I need to get to bed so I can get up and get the proof done tomorrow, as well as answer all my emails. (Ah!) Yeah, I have a huge, huge pile. And since yahoo has forced the “new” mail on me, I especially hate it. It’s just too overwhelming for my poor brain. I know that sounds stupid, but….

Anyway, I shortened it, and that’s about it. I did play with some other colors, and even liked a few of them, but not enough to make it a two fer.  I figure the double ones are handy if someone has saved both version of the dolls. Then they can dress alike, but not exactly. You know, like twins.

OKay, I’m outta here.

Another two fer

drawing time: 1 hour 15 minutes
times cheated and used the mouse: 2 shading and the hem of the dress
number of layers: 11

I’m late with this because I was too tired this morning to stay up and do it, but I’m still on the right day, at least, so that’s something.

I got the proof copy of Legacy of Ghosts yesterday and started going through it. so far I’ve found several typos and some things that need fixed. Joy. I need to get some Plaid Rainbow cartoons done tonight (They’re a collab I do with Jonathan Harvey – I draw these weird one square cartoons and he makes up captions, like this:

A retro Plaid Rainbow cartoon

Pretty cool, huh? You can read them every Tuesday on his MySpace blog – along with other cool pseudo Inspirationalism.

ANyway, there’s some other to do stuff, but I’ll refrain from listing it all, and instead I’ll get to business.

Today’s dress comes from a Doris Day magic clothes set, published by whitman in 1957. I know nothing else about it, except that yellow and green look bad on Rain, so I changed it to violet.

Changed the buckle from square to round, and that was about it, as I like the drapey look.

Only one more day left of September, and I’m thinking of mixing it up in October with “Costumes”, though I still have some retro clothes I wanted to do, so I don’t know. Maybe I will finish up the last ten retro outfits and then have only 21 days for costumes? Hmmmm…

Okay, have to go get to work!

A two-fer to make up for the dry spell

drawing time: 1 hour 5 minutes
times cheated and used the mouse: Too many to count
number of layers: seven counting the recolor

Right, so my post a day got ruined. I am very disappointed, but there was just too much; Mom and the father-in-law both in the hospital, Dad only recently left, and then all this stuff to get ready for the book launch, like the contest, etc.  There comes a point where the time just doesn’t exist. Hopefully, though, some of it is taken care of, and I can get back to this. There was a noteable difference in my stress levels the last few days when I haven’t been drawing something every day.

I also got my How to Get a Cheap Book Cover book uploaded to Smashwords, and it can be yours for a measley $1.50 (click the nifty book cover below)

From how to woo your cover artist to simple DIY

Anyway, today’s dress comes from Golden girls, a set published by merrill in 19543 – or so says the site I found it on. It’s another internet find.

Click image for full size, then right click and Save As

I first did the dress in the pale blue of the original, but then a darker blue looked better with the gold. And, of course, I love red, so….. Rain doesn’t look too bad in red. It’s better than the green, anyway.  I took the border off the bottom so the material could be more drapey, and I think I like it better that way.

Okay, off to go have some dinner and get to bed.

Same skirt, new shirt 🙂

drawing time: 21 minutes
times cheated and used the mouse: 0
number of layers: 3 new ones (not counting pre exisiting skirt)

This is the last of my premade ones. Glad I had it, as I just got home from the hospital. Not only are they keeping Mom longer (She has an angiogram in the morning to decide whether she needs a defibrillator) but my Father-in-law was taken to ER with Congestive Heart Failure and breathing problems, and he was finally admitted to the hospital at 3am. No idea what’s going to happen with him yet, but hopefully it is resolved soon.

I’ll be running a contest to win free copies of Legacy of Ghosts starting Friday on my Amaranthine blog (the blog is set to auto post it). Hopefully it will be fun.

Today’s outfit is from the Ava Gardner book, or more correctly, the shirt is. I used the same skirt as yesterday

I’m not completely happy with this one, but it will have to do. No idea if I will have time tomorrow to make another outfit, as I have to make a comic page for the TTTC, possibly go to the hospital, fix and upload Shades of Gray, and a pile of other things. *sigh*

Okay, I’m outta here!
